Funerals

In a funeral service we come together as family and friends to give thanks for the life of loved one, to mourn their loss and to commend them to God. We will endeavour to help you arrange a fitting service and to support you in your time of loss.

The Funeral Service

Arranging the Date

To organise a funeral you should, in the first instance, contact the Rector.  In most cases, your Funeral Director will undertake this on your behalf. To help with choosing a date, existing bookings are listed on the Services Page. Funerals are not conducted on Saturdays or Sundays.

Note that you will need both Church and Rector; thus, if there is any booking on a chosen day, it may not be possible to conduct a funeral, even if your chosen Church appears free.

Burials

For burials, only the following churches have a graveyard:

There are important regulations concerning memorials in churchyards which can be found here.

How much does a Funeral cost?

Statutory fees for a Church of England funeral can be found here, and local fees can be found on the Fees page..

Who may take part in the service?

It is important to us that all services are personal and appropriate. We have welcomed visiting clergy and laity of different traditions to take part in services as appropriate. Please contact the Rector to discuss your thoughts.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd : therefore can I lack nothing.

He shall feed me in a green pasture : and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.

He shall convert my soul : and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name's sake.

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil : for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.

Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me : thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.

But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life : and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
