Weddings

Making your marriage the best day of your life is really important to us. From the moment you contact us we treat each couple individually. Before your special day we'll offer you an opportunity to attend marriage preparation to take time in the midst of busy preparation to consider what your marriage means to you, and to reflect on marriage from a Christian perspective. We know just how much planning is involved. We will help you to think through what happens on the day itself including the vows you make, the forms of service; your order of service sheet; the Bible readings and Readings from other sources, hymns and music you might choose.

You may also wish to look at the Church of England's Your Church Wedding web site which is full of information, FAQs, a service planner and a Virtual Vicar.

May I be married in this Parish?

Everyone has a right to be married in the church where they are resident, but quite often people want to marry in a parish where neither of them live. The Church of England has changed its rules from the beginning of October 2008 to make it easier for people to be married in church. Please check the new regulations with details of the qualifying connections on the Your Church Wedding web site.

May I get married if I'm divorced?

We recognise that relationships can end despite everyone's best efforts. Belief in forgiveness and new beginnings lie at the heart of the Christian faith. We are keen to support you as positively and sensitively as possible. Please contact the Rector to arrange a meeting. Our Parish allows for the possibility of marrying people who have been divorced, after appropriate consideration, reflection and preparation. If one or both of you has been married before and you are now divorced it may still be possible for you to be married in our churches, and a blessing after a civil ceremony is also an option.

How much does a wedding cost?

Statutory fees for a Church of England wedding are found here. For additional local fees click here.

What dates are possible?

To discuss a possible date for a service contact the Rector. The calendar on this website may be of some help. (Please note that wedding services are not conducted in the parish on Fridays).

Who may take part in our service?

It is important to us that your wedding is personal to you and memorable. We have welcomed visiting clergy of different traditions, lay-readers, lesson readers and musicians, photographers and videographers to take part in services as appropriate. Please contact the Rector to discuss your thoughts.

A prayer for all preparing for marriage

God of all grace,

look in favour on all who are preparing to be made one in marriage.

In your love deepen their love

and strengthen their wills

to keep the promises they will make,

that they may continue

in life-long faithfulness to each other;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please contact the Rector to begin planning your special day.
